Location Midway between the sternocostal angle and the centre of the umbilicus, 0.5 cun lateral to the anterior midline. How to find The distance between the sternocostal angle (➞ 3.5) and the centre of the umbilicus is divided into 8 proportional cun, which can vary considerably from the patient’s finger cun. Therefore, only proportional cun should be used (elastic tape ➞ 2.3.1). Spreading hands technique (➞ 2.3.3): Place the little fingers on the centre of the umbilicus and the sternocostal angle respectively and join the thumbs at the midpoint of this distance by evenly spreading both hands.
